Situated on Long Island Sound, Stratford is a town flourishing with waterfront beauty. The town is bounded to the east by the Housatonic River and relies on its shoreline as a significant natural resource.

Established in 1639, Stratford has a long-standing history in aviation and is home of the American helicopter industry. In 1939, aviator Igor Sikorsky successfully flew the first helicopter at his Stratford-based aircraft plant. Today, Sikorsky Aircraft is the world's leading helicopter manufacturer. Sikorsky Memorial Airport is located in the Lordship section of Stratford, providing commuter service to several northeastern cities.

Housatonic Community College
900 Lafayette Boulevard, Bridgeport: Founded in 1967, Housatonic Community College serves Southwestern Connecticut and is a member of the Connecticut Community-Technical College system. The college moved into its state-of-the-art campus of downtown Bridgeport in 1997.

Sacred Heart University
5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield: Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963 by the Reverend Walter W. Curtis and was the first Catholic university in the United States to be led and staffed by lay people. Esteemed for the individual attention it provides students, Sacred Heart University is best known for its commitment to academic excellence and community service.

Southern Connecticut State University
501 Crescent Street, New Haven: Approximately 25 minutes north of Stratford, SCSU offers 115 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. This 168-acre campus has currently 8,080 undergraduate and 3,863 graduate students enrolled. The school offers more than 60 academic and special interest organizations; it is perhaps best known for its “home away from home” residential housing program.

University of Bridgeport
126 Park Avenue, Bridgeport: The University of Bridgeport is an international, doctoral university with outstanding academic programs. Students can earn degrees in many undergraduate and graduate programs. The university employs 200 full and part-time faculty members.

Yale University
149 Elm Street, New Haven: Yale University is perhaps one of the most distinguished schools in America. Founded in 1701, Yale is a private, independent institution comprised of ten professional schools. Representing 108 different countries, approximately 11,250 students attend the university. Yale is known for its many research organizations, libraries, museums and administrative offices.

267 Grant Street, Bridgeport: Bridgeport Hospital is a private, not-for-profit hospital with 425 licensed beds, 2,000 employees and 500 active attending physicians representing 70 subspecialties. 180 medical/surgical residents belong to programs affiliated with Yale University School of Medicine.

MED NOW Family Walk-In and Industrial Care Center
1040 Barnum Avenue, Stratford: Open seven days a week, this caring, professional medical center treats a variety of minor illnesses and injuries. Other services provided include pregnancy tests, physicals for various school or sports requirements, flu vaccinations and strep and mononucleosis tests. MED NOW participates in several insurance programs with services provided at an affordable rate.

Saint Vincent’s Medical Center
2800 Main Street, Bridgeport: St. Vincent's is a major, 397 bed acute care hospital with an active medical staff of 450 physicians. The hospital has been recognized as one of the top 100 heart hospitals in the United States, representing an ample range of more than 50 specialty and subspecialty medical and surgical disciplines.

Stratford Community Health Center
727 Honeyspot Road, Stratford: Stratford Community Health Center is a not-for-profit organization offering various services including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric health care, prenatal and postpartum care.

Birdseye Street Boat Launch
Birdseye Street: Located at the mouth of the Housatonic River, this easily accessible boat launch was recently renovated and now possesses better ramps, expanded parking, landscaping, a fishing pier and handicap-accessible ramps. Also provided is a deck for sitting and viewing the Housatonic River and Nells Island.

Boothe Memorial Park
5774 Main Street: A registered National Historic Landmark, Boothe Memorial Park is a 32 acre homestead encompassing historic buildings, picnic areas, a rose garden and several other attractions.

Far Mill River
Mill Street: A fisherman’s delight, Far Mill River is a scenic watercourse that enters the west side of the Housatonic, just adjacent to Sikorsky Airport. Several of Stratford’s parks are located among the river.

Paradise Green
96 Chapel Street: Located north of Stratford’s town center, this 1.8 acre greensward is home to several community events including the town’s annual Harvest Festival and Summer Concert Series.

Shakespeare Theatre
State Park: Overlooking the Housatonic Boat Club and Nells Island, picnic areas array this 14 acre theatre ground, a locale convenient for avid walkers and runners. Though the theatre has been closed for several years, the grounds are open to the public.

Short Beach Park
1 Dorne Drive: Abounding with amenities, Short Beach Park is designed for the pleasure of all Stratford citizens. The park has concessions, showers, restrooms, a miniature golf course and the new YMCA Skate Park. Other facilities include a playground, beach volleyball courts, basketball courts, picnic areas, ball fields, paddleball courts and tennis courts.

Sterling House
2283 Main Street: Formerly the home of the Sterling family, Sterling House is a community center committed to serving Stratford. By providing affordable social, educational and recreational activities, the center assists in creating positive and healthy personal development. Located in the heart of Stratford, Sterling House offers several programs including dance and cooking classes, bus trips, free workshops, enrichment classes, after school programs and various youth affairs.

Stratford Point Lighthouse
Stratford Harbor: Established in 1822, the lighthouse was an essential part of Stratford’s coastal trade, shipbuilding and oystering activity in the 18th and 19th centuries. Marking the entrance of Stratford Harbor, it stands as one of the town’s greatest historical attributes.

YMCA Skate Park
Short Beach Park: Open to the public, the park provides citizens an opportunity to develop their skating skills. A great source for recreation, the park is especially popular among youth.

Transportation

Amtrak railroad transportation provides 14 trains daily from Bridgeport, the only service stopping between New Haven and Stamford.

The Bridgeport Ferry provides year-round transportation to Port Jefferson, New York.

Merritt Parkway

The Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority operates a family of bus transit services in the Greater Bridgeport Connecticut Area with services provided throughout Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stratford and Trumbull. Additional services include extensive minibus assistance for riders with disabilities

Metro-North Commuter Railway provides 63 trains daily and is a 75 to 80 minute train ride to New York City.

Sikorsky Memorial Airport is located off Interstate 95 in Stratford. The airport features both a general terminal and a vacant commercial aviation terminal, and can handle jets as large as a 727
